Well folks, tonight I installed wordpress on my new domain! OH YEAH! I had struggled through it before, and it didn't install right, and I was like unimpresssed with it. Then tonight, I was rereading the install documentation, and realized I was missing something important: one of the compelling reasons for using bluehost for my webhost was because it had wordpress preinstalled. HA! Well that made it easy.

I spent the rest of the evening trying to customize my new blog. I have the main features down, but some of the critical stuff is still missing... Wordpress uses this weird conglomeration of style sheets and regular html plus php script, and I'm not really sure what does which (probably all very standard, but I just don't know it). With blogger, I just found the footer script, and inserted my hit counter code. Now it's not apparent where it goes... I just need to do a bit more poking around I think. Oh, I need to add, Wordpress allows customization out to wazoo...

Anyway, this whole post is to say, please update ur bookmarks, cause this blog right here is a goin down! (at least is going to turn into a blogger front to my real website/blog...

Hey, I haven't written anything personal on here for a while...

I'm enjoying Worldviews class. That does help add to my general duties and things to get done. I don't feel behind right now, but it does take away from my free time to do things like email and blog. One annoying thing I'm doing for worldviews right now is log my time for two weeks in 15 minute increments. This is supposed to demonstrate things about our current worldview.

My website finally has propagated across the internet (this means you can view it now), so I'm pumped about that. Unfortunately, I'm realizing that I have some serious learning to do to get it this figured out. I was thinking about just moving my blog to my website (which I did for about a day), something like what Darrell has done, but that looks like pain. Besides, I'm trying to figure out how I can move to wordpress.

David just gave me a copy of M$ FrontPage 2003 to mess with, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately, I don't have the second clue about building a website (I can maybe halfway code in html, but not build a website), so I have some serious studying to do this week.

I'm about written out for the day (two journals, a Bible study-journal, and a blog entry, and maybe an email after this), so I'm gonna haff 2 sign off.

Oh, btw, dear Naomi and Bev came me a pair of tigger socks to wear! (Very sweet of them) I'm not sure if I can come to grips with wearing socks like that, so I might have to mount them on my wall! :D They also gave me this adorable kids book, entitled "The Going to Bed Book." On the back, it says "Serious Silliness for all Ages!" :D

"Operation Aborted" message. This is just an odd error message that you get when loading a page. If you have a script inside a form, and the script calls createElement while the page is loading, Internet Explorer fails to load the page.

Internet Explorer crash. As a courtesy, this page prompts before crashing. There page has many facets that must be present for the crash to occur, yet the code is surprisingly simple.

Who's says you need to be ashamed about creating pages that can only serve their purpose in Internet Explorer?

I think I'm learning more about how amazing it is that Jesus came to earth. Maybe it's like the man who first came to the ocean, and said, that looks big. Yes, it IS BIG!

I really like v. 14. The Word (Logos) became flesh and dwelt among us. How amazing! It looks big (but it's WAY bigger). What could the implications be?

I'm having fun reading from The Universe Next Door by Sires. There are lots of gr8 quotes in there. Right now one of my favorites is: Eastern Pantheistic Monism. Q: what could be pan- and mon- at the same time? Comment 2) about Eastern Pantheistic Monism is that it blows my Western way of thinking. Lawyer wants "bug-free" warranty on software...

A public interest lawyer who is also intending to run as a Republican in the 2006 Illinois gubernatorial race is taking his fight to Microsoft in hopes of preventing the company from releasing what he calls "bad code."

Andy Martin of The Committee to Fight Microsoft on Tuesday announced his intentions to block Microsoft from releasing its Windows Vista operating system. Martin intends to ask Microsoft for an unconditional warranty that the operating system is free of bugs that could result in security vulnerabilities.

FireFox vs. IE?

Right now it's big news that M$ is finally coming out with Internet Explorer 7. A recent study (posted on Slashdot) indicates that FF actually had more security "holes" recently than IE: 'From March 2005 to September 2005 10 vulnerabilities were published for Microsoft Internet Explorer, 40 for Mozilla Firefox. In April-September timespan there were 6 exploits for MSIE, 11 for Firefox.

I am thinking about that issue because we like FF here since it presents less of a security risk than IE.

whereas there may be only 6 exploits for IE, but my dog can (and does) routinely use them, and every single one of the roots the box the browser's running on.

this is clearly exagerated a bit, but the simple *number* of exploits isn't too relevent

Melvin preached a barn-burner today about how we should relate to technology, specifically things like movies, internet and video games. One tidbit I'll mention here was a comment Melvin made (my paraphrase) that we [plain people] tend to have only an on/off switch like for standards, and don't really know how to do something in moderation. I think it's very true.

I have this thing about welcoming people to the celebration (like someone is sitting down at my supper table, then I welcome them to the celebration). Then they get this blank look, and say, "what celebration?" And then I'm like, "what do you mean--what celebration? R u a Christian, or not?" Or something like that. My logic could easily be highly flawed, but I personally like the idea of every day being a celebration for the child of God. I am looking for your input to why every day is a celebration. At the top of my list is: "Rejoice evermore." Any others? (a sheet will be posted outside the tech room...)

Hi folks, this is my annual, I mean weakly update (hahaa-that was weak!).

The problem is that not much noteworthy stuff happened this week. I trying to think if I can find anything interesting to write about.

Which, right now, I'm having issues coming up with interesting thigns to write about. So I'll start with yesterday, since that is obvious. What I mean is that this work crew from Canada came and wiped out a bunch of brick off of the little gym. They did a gr8 job.

We played volleyball until I was sore on Saturday night. Imagine that. I must b getting old.

Tomorrow is Labor day. That sounds like fun. I wonder what extra labor I will do.

Oh yeah, Saturday, I cleaned the dorm for Javan (it was his turn), since he was in VA Beach. The bathroom floor, which probably hadn't been cleaned right in a while, uhh, was well worth cleaning. I also cleaned the dorm for Robin last week, so now I should be setting cosey for a while.

Did I say that Caia made curtains for Javan and I? She made some for Robin's room, n then she was like, if you buy some material, I'll make some for you 2. So the next friday night, a carload of us went shopping, n we stopped at Jo-Ann's. I have a lot more sympathy now for ladies painful material shopping decisions. When I would finally find some material that I thought I could live with, it would be like $5/yd., n I thought it was ridiculous to pay $15 for a couple little curtains. Anyway, the stock value of our room just went up a couple thousand %. One wall still resembles a dungeon, but it's not so bad anymore at least.

Have I mentioned yet that I intend to take Worldviews class by Steve Brubaker? FYI...

gotta go. Looks like we might b hanging out in the lounge 2nite. There's no network there, so I'm having 2 work from the study room...

It is raining today!

I am reinstalling Windows on JB's brand new Inspiron 6000. So I write a paragraph or so between starting the next device driver install. That is like the third new Dell in a row that has so much junk on it that it doesn't run right (at least I think that's what's happening). Why should anyone need 4 sign-ur-life away offers for "free" internet that run in the background? Oh well, we live in a fallen world [hehee].

Last night, FBCS had their back-t0-school night. I helped Shannon and Joella "babysit" the 4-6th graders. I ran my wheels off! (as you can obviously see) Today my lower back hurts when I move, I think from jarring around on the uneven ground.

Tonight, we're having an informal tea/hot drink time in the lounge at 8:30. Bring ur own book, chai supplied by Lois.

Does anyone know what Sharepoint Portal is? It looks like we might be cranking up to try that here at FB. It's pretty cool. The main problem is that it's so virtual that it's freaky. Like you can upload a document to the server to be edited, and ur like where did that thing go? The user authentication is like heavily integrated with Windows--so much so that it's almost unnerving. Unfortunately, it uses Windows Messenger, so I'm having to break my conviction to stay away from Viruses and use WMessenger.

I like Skype!

The other night, David S, Ryan and I went to an Ethical Hackers' Convention in Pittsburgh, held on the 31st floor of the Xplorion building (not that shabby a height for a country pumpkin). The trainer guy showed us the terrifying ease with which you can hack a computer. Very impressive. Makes me think zone alarm could be kinda nice to have on ur system!

Hey folks, it's been like ages since I've written, and stuff has HAPPENED in the mean time.

Remember what I said about Corn day making me feel tired? It actually went very well, I thought. We got about 696 quarts! Not bad for an amishman, I would think [note: we are not amishman, so that statement doesn't really mean that much].

Thursday night, the few leftovers hung out at Beat and Moniker's (I mean Monica) place. We had some violent games of croke-it (I mean croquet) and washer-board (Beat is a devastatingly good aim!).

Friday night and on through the weekend, all kinds of students started returning! BINGO BANGO BONGO--I have people in my dorm again!@!$! [I am very happy] I have a room mate named Javon Bender. Keith Yoder and Robin Soukup also live in my dorm. [the celebration continues] Sorry, I would post a complementary picture of Javon, but I don't have one yet. [grin]

I am very happy to have Betty here and to be able to claim her as my cousin! She has already claimed me, and put me to work assembling an office chair for her, which I was immeasurably thrilled to do for her.

Sunday, the Graybills invited all the FB'ers and the Shalom church over for the "annual" corn bake, or something like that. Talk about FF (FINE food).

TAP/MAP orientation began today--scary thought. Fortunately, I am not a student, so I have the power to live above that fear (others r not so lucky).

I am reading "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" right now. One of the better quotes (that I can remember)is something to the effect that the computer produced "something almost, but not quite entirely unlike tea." That of course means that it was almost entirely unlike tea. That is a very versatile phrase that can be used for other things, for example, "Windows is almost, but not quite entirely insecure." (that means Windows is not ok with itself) [chortles happily up his sleave]

I managed to fall asleep last night at a very decent hour for having had a heavy duty nap in the afternoon and three glasses of iced cappuccino for a bedtime snack.

I wonder what I should write about. It's been a while since I've really updated this thing, but I can't think of anything that profound right now to write about!

Ever read The Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare? I started reading it. It takes some talent to read! (kinda like reading a dictionary) I also read Battlefield Earth, by L. Ron Hubbard, last week. A very talented SciFi story. Very inspirational.

Ever listened to Tapestry Singers? It would be more than worth your time. Thursday night, we drove to Hartville (2 hours) to listen to them. I was blown out of my seat! I knew a couple handfuls of the kids there (mostly from SMBI), so it was cool to c them again. I even ran into Sharon Miller (not very hard of course), and was quite happy 2 c her again.

Monday is Corn day at FB. Sounds traumatic. I already feel tired. [grin]

VJ (my big bro) says I need to try out skype (Voip/internet tel), so I'd better wrap this up so I can head over to their site.

Teachers' Week

Today, teachers' week begins!

It looks like I will be at the sound board most of the day, so I am racking up my hours listening to the high-powered speakers!

This morning, someone I had never met b4, told me he reads my blog sometimes [and probably is reading this {grin}]. He says that is the way ministers need to get the pulse of their youth. That was very interesting!

I had a very emotional moment when one of our long-time vs'ers left this morning. "Come again when you can stay longer!"

well gotta go, Gerald is almost finished with his workshop (I have my laptop here with me at the sound board...) [grin]

Hi Folks, it's been a while since I've written anything...I guess it's about time I say hi again...

Today, I spent some time working on my car! With Alvin Nissley's help, I replaced the leaking clutch slave cylinder. That is very nice! Last week, Alvin also helped me take out the main relay, and resolder all the joints. Now my car starts even on hot days! I think that was much cheaper buying a new relay, or a fuel pump!

I also had a major victory this week--I got Librarian's Edge Program (our library program/system) to work on our new servers. I had to start from scratch by setting up MSDE (the database that LE uses). You have to set up MSDE from a command line interface. Very similar to Linux, only worse. There r all these slimy little switches that you have to get right for it to work (it took me about 2 days, and a call to tech support to get it all right). Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that getting LE up was a very good way to end this week.

BTW, I'm thinking about starting a "brother" blog with a focus on the juiciest computer news and funny computer stuff. I am looking for team members. I am especially inviting people like ___...well, I won't mention any names right now, but feel free to contact me if you are interested in being a contributor.

2nite I helped Mahlon with his laptop. He couldn't get on our network. After trying everything I could think of, I restarted the computer. As it went down, I suddenly saw this little evil icon in the corner of his screen. AHAH! I can't believe I didn't think to check his Norton-shutdownproductivity-suite. Sure enough, after setting an exception in the firewall, the connection worked flawlessly. It's like, duh, Mark, u should have thought of that sooner. Well u can believe I'll know better next time. [Mark adds another black mark to his tally 4 Norton Virus]

Uhmm, I forgot to mention one thing... I've just received my first invitation to a singles retreat, by a certain nameless person! Fortunately, I've been hastily reassured that this retreat is more like a church/youth group camping trip, than to comfort you in your bachelorhood, etc. Ok, this probably isn't nearly as bad as I'm making it sound, but I just in general found the whole situation hilarious. Nonetheless, some of the important ppl in my life say I should go (help the needy!). :D ok, enough hot air for one day... [grin]

Weekend Life

Hey homies, this has been an interesting week...

A couple nights ago, a dead rat appeared in the guys dorm. It was dutifully documented (See picture). Joel takes full credit for poisoning the rat. Actually, it was originally found in the flowerbeds. This is probably the very rat who was found eating Mary Sue's Flowers. The moral of the story is you will pay if you mess with Mary Sue's flowers! The rest of the story: The rat was moved to the hallway, to be discovered by innocent victims.

Update: Milo says that he also put out rat poison--three boxes to be exact, under his deck.

Romans class has been teaching me a lot about the things I don't know. For example, imagine answering this question:

1. Issue/Question four (3:21-31 and 5:12-21): Paul presents Christ as the answer to our need for righteousness. What has God done in the life, death and resurrection of Christ that brings redemption to sinful man?

I think the answer must be there, but I'm 2 dense 2 c it. I tore my hair out for an evening, trying to figure out how to answer the question, esp. from the passages listed. Corleen and Kendall thought my issues were funny (it was a very easy question for their well developed brains). After the discussion the next day, at brunch, I mentioned to Irene that I dont' know very much. She laughed and thought it was great that I was catching on. I think I have to agree with her that I tend to be full of myself. I'm sure it's annoying to more than a few ppl.

I've been realizing that I'm terribly social, and especially at a place like this, it's very easy for me to try to live on that. [not good]

A couple days ago, I realized that there is this very interesting person here:

I had a major victory today, as well. I managed to navigate the world of HTML enough to add a fancy site hit counter to my blog. Not nearly enough ppl leave any indication of visiting my site, so I thought it would be cool to get some idea. You can see it 2 if you go way to the bottom of my site. Note: you will only be able to see the hit count; u have to login (and you don't have the password:D to get the fancy stats.

I think I might try to put my favorite links on my site as well. I already have "unfit" comic strip linked here.

Which reminds me, this morning, Lyd showed me this cool Pearls before Swine comic. It's pretty real to life, I think, but unfortunately, some of the wording is a little shady.

BTW, What do you get when you cross a fish with an elephant? Why swimming trunks of course. [heheeehe] (Courtesy of Alex, who got it from a kids' joke book he's reading for Kids' Lit class.)

My car has issues right now. I'm not impressed with it. The mechanic thinks it must need a new fuel pump. I think it needs to get a clue.

BTW, how do you explain to someone that Norton AV is really a virus that you have to pay for? I worked on a computer for a while today that had Norton Virus installed, and I was very bitter about it. I have a hard time explaining my reasons, but I just know that I don't like it at all! I am also trying to convince the owner of this computer to migrate to Mozilla Thunderbird for her email. For the second time in a week, I've had to delete an email account and reinstall it for Outlook Express to be able to check the email. Probably I shoudl just delete the whole computer.

BTW, have I mentoined yte that I dont' mind typos ni my posts?

Hey whazzzzup? Hey did you know that "homies," or "sup dog?" is a very complimentary thing to say? Yesterday at the brunch table, we had an argument about this subject, and the people at my table had a hard time understanding my viewpoint. Anyway, so later in the evening, we had this getting to know each other activity, and everyone wrote down a pet peeve and handed it in. Then Arlyn read them aloud and people tried to guess who it might be. Mine was "When people think that homie is derogatory." As you may have guessed, quite a few people were able to guess who that might have been!

I just had this rude interruption--Bev, Cindi and Naomi got me to set up a xanga site for them. Guess what the name is? troubletripled ! I guess that fits. Now they happily went off to customize it into oblivion! I'm sure they'd be happy if you'd leave some comments for them (I'm trying hard, myself).

well, well. I actually sorta have this saturday off adn I'm tryign to cool off my brain by trying to set up this blog (after a month of inactivity). Some of you are probably like, "that doesn't follow." I'm not sure if it does either, but right now that's what I feel like doing.

This is still pretty much in it's painful testing stages, so I'm not sure what's going to happen with it yet.

My [work] computer still has some painful issues since we're right in the process of switchign to domains, and haven't a clue about user permissions. It's really thrilling, to be exact. Anyway, so I don't have permissions set up to be able to install any programs like Hello for example so as to be able to upload a profile picture. I also don't know squidly dot about HTML formatting, so I hope I can teach this blog to do what I tell it to, for example put links on it that I want, not that are default!!!

Romans is a deep book. I'm studying it for one of my classes for this summer term. I thought I had some issues figured out until we got to class and started discussing the guilt of the heathen (chapter 1). Uhmm, maybe I should have brought my life preserver along to prevent getting in over my head!
